When I Grow Up......

Rachel is sitting on the couch, looks over at me and says...

Mom! I just don't know if I want to be a babysitter or a popstar when I grow up!

Rachel has been asking to have a family dinner out at Cheddars, so we went on a Saturday night, in the rain, all 5 of us.  As we get in the car I look at Rachel and say

Mom - Rachel what do you say to daddy?
Rachel - Thank you, but you all should really be thanking me, it was my idea!

Rachel is growing up

As Rachel gets older and more mature her humor is not as childlike and innocent, but there have been a couple of great moments!

 1. Rachel asked Jesus into her heart a few months back, as we are all sitting in the living room she says the following.

Rachel - Mom! Everyone in this room (Mom, Dad,Rachel, and Kate) are Christians because we have asked Jesus into our hearts....except Kate, she is a baby so she is still just an American.

 2. Rachel has really begun to enjoy "cooking" with me in the kitchen. So one day she asked if she could have a bowl and spoon to play around with. When I went to check on her the following happened.

Mom - looking in a bowl of sugar, cinnamon, and flowers - "What is that?" Rachel - "It is sugar, and spice and everything nice."

Fight

So Rachel and her daddy like to wrestle and rough house. As Matthew is throwing her around the following ensues.

Rachel - You wanna piece of MEAT!
Daddy -What?
Rachel- You wanna piece of MEAT?
Daddy - It is supposed to be... You wanna apiece of ME!!!!

Age is just a number

Rachel - Mom how old will you be on your birthday?
Mom - 36
Rachel- It's just around the corner!
Mom - What is?
Rachel - 99!!!

Favorite colors....

In the car on the way to school Rachel begins to explain why we like our favorite colors.

"Mommy's favorite color is yellow, so she loves the sun. Daddy's favorite color is blue so he loves the moon. My favorite color is gold so I love money!"

It's not bad logic.

Real and Not Real

Rachel woke up and asked what all the crumbles were in her eyes. I told her it was left over sand from the sandman. I then proceeded to tell her who the sandman was.

Rachel - Mom, the sandman is not real.
Mom - yes he is, he is just like the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy.
Rachel - No, Mom. The Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny ARE real, the sandman is not.
Mom - ummm okay.

She sounds so much like her mama

Sometimes Rachel expects to be waited on hand and foot. And I always tell her, I am not your maid, clean your own room and bathroom, get your own glass of water etc... Well today she turned the tables as I laid exhausted on the couch.

Mom - "Rachel, will you get me a glass of apple juice?"
Rachel - "I'm not your waiter!"

We both laughed and then she got me the glass.

Images

We are driving in the car and Rachel is particularly whinny today.

Rachel - Mom look at my elbow...what is that?
Mom - It looks like a mosquito bite.
Rachel - Huh, I look like I am turning into a Grandma.

For the birds....

We are driving and there a many birds sitting on a wire next to each other.

Rachel - Do you think those birds know each other?
Mom - probably!

We then see a a bird on another wire all alone.

Rachel - Oh, I bet he does not have any friends.

Playing teacher....

Since Rachel has concluded Pre K and her year end program she is all about hosting programs at home. She likes to give out awards and certificates. So we are in Memphis for a family visit and she has created awards for Mom, Dad, and Gran. Each award is beautifully colored with our name, an ink stamp, and a check mark. Here is how the conversation went.

Gran - Wow, I have a stamp and a check mark!
Daddy - I have a stamp and a "V" (a really big check mark shaped like a V)
Rachel - You want me to stamp your feet??? Ok, what color?
Daddy - NOOOO, I said a stamp and a "V" not stamp my feet.

A very disappointed Rachel's shoulders sank as she put down the stamp and ink pad.

Travel

Rachel is just obsessed with going to Disney World again, so Matthew tells her there are other Disney Parks here like in California.

Rachel - How long does it take to drive to Californy?
Matthew - (laughing) a really long time, days.
Rachel - Then can we just go to Paris?

The repetitive question

In our house the office is just through the master bathroom so to get to it you have to come through our bedroom and bathroom. Rachel loves being on the computer, but she is not allowed in the bathroom if the door is closed which means no access to the computer.

Rachel knocks on the bathroom door, Daddy is about to turn the shower on and mommy is in the office at the computer.

Rachel - (knock, knock)
Daddy - What?
Rachel - Can I play on the computer?
Daddy - No, mommy is using it.
Rachel - Can I talk to her.
Daddy - No, I am about to take a shower.
Rachel - I just really need to talk to her
Daddy - It will have to wait.
Rachel - Please I really need to.

Matthew (fully dressed) opens the door, Rachel rushes through the bathroom and walks up to me in the office.

Mom - What is it!!
Rachel - Umm, Mommy, Umm,, What time is it?
Mom - Get out silly girl.

Matthew was not amused I could not help but laughing out loud. Rachel must ask us this question 10-15 times a day...I am not exaggerating.

Christmas

It is Christmas Eve, Santa has already visited Rachel this afternoon outside, but she knows he will be back tonight to deliver gifts. So here is what she told her daddy.

Rachel - "Dad - you can not check on me tonight while I'm asleep"
Daddy - "Why" (thinking she was planning something)
Rachel - "Because if you get up to check on me and Santa sees you not sleeping he will not give you anything."

Pastor Chris

Living in the South has brought some changes, to be respectful to adults you call those older than you Miss Andrea, or Mr Matthew etc... Getting Rachel used to this has been interesting. She is doing well, but when it comes to Chris and Lisa, she calls them Uncle Chris and Aunt Lisa. While at school Rachel saw Chris walking down the hallway and she began shouting... "Chris, Hi Chris" Rachel's teacher corrected her and said, "Rachel, we call him Pastor Chris" Chris then spoke up and said, "Well, its okay, she usually calls me Uncle Chris." So the other day in the car we are listening to the radio and a line in the song states the following:

Song - ....My Past Regressed.....
Rachel - "Mom! Did you hear that, it just said My Pastor Chris!"

I laughed for a long time about that one.

Loose Change

Rachel's Gran and Granddad are visiting this week. Granddad had 2 dimes on the counter and the following conversation ensued.

Granddad - Rachel would you like these 2 dimes for your piggy bank?
Rachel - My piggy bank only takes quarters!

After much laughter she took the two dimes anyway!

Bunny Rabits

At the grocery store we got into a debate over carrots.

Rachel - Mom I want big carrots (the long raw kind)
Mom - Well I only need a small bag of baby carrots.
Rachel - No please, I really need big carrots.
Mom - Why? You do not even like raw carrots?
Rachel - Because I am having a tea party with my bunnies and they like the long ones.

Girls, Girls, Girls....

Today in the car Rachel says....

Rachel - Mom I want a baby brother
Mom - What? You have been asking for a sister for years.
Rachel - Well girls are a mess.
Mom - No they're not, why do you think that.
Rachel - The lady told me girls are a mess.

I was shocked that someone would say something so negative to her about having a sister, but then it came out that Rachel was asked "Are you having a baby brother or baby sister?" Rachel told them a baby sister. The adult's response was... "Wow, you will have a whole mess of girls at your house."

Hard work, or hardly working

So Rachel and I picked Matthew up from work.... here is the conversation

Rachel - So what did you do today daddy?
Matthew - I worked really hard.
Rachel - I worked today too, but slowly.

At least she is honest! ;-)
