Girls, Girls, Girls....

Today in the car Rachel says....

Rachel - Mom I want a baby brother
Mom - What? You have been asking for a sister for years.
Rachel - Well girls are a mess.
Mom - No they're not, why do you think that.
Rachel - The lady told me girls are a mess.

I was shocked that someone would say something so negative to her about having a sister, but then it came out that Rachel was asked "Are you having a baby brother or baby sister?" Rachel told them a baby sister. The adult's response was... "Wow, you will have a whole mess of girls at your house."

Rachel - So what did you do today daddy?
Matthew - I worked really hard.
Rachel - I worked today too, but slowly.

At least she is honest! ;-)

Dreams

This morning Rachel was telling us about her dream last night.

Rachel - Well we were at the beach and this crab came up to daddy and snapped him on the arm.
Andrea - Where was I?
Rachel - He did not have any eyes.
Andrea - (laughing) no, no, where was mommy?

All Shapes and Sizes

Rachel knows her shapes really well. And to her a heart is a shape so I was explaining that a heart is also what is inside of us and where mommy holds all her love for Rachel. A few days after that...

Rachel "Bless your heart mommy"
Mommy - Thank you!
Rachel - And bless Rachel's heart, and Daddy's square!
Mommy - What? A square, Daddy doesn't have a square, he has a heart too.
Rachel - No, girls have hearts, boys have squares.

Where does she get this stuff?

I'm 4 years old

Ok, so Rachel does a great job at writing her name, but she does it in all caps. Now that she can spell her name out loud and write it we are now polishing the process. So we are working on capitalizing the "R" and writing the remainder of her name in lower case "achel". The picture shows her strong attempt at copying mommy's version of Rachel. She did really well. But notice the drawing after her name....

Mommy - Good job Ray, now how old are you?
Rachel - I'm 4
Mommy - Right, can you write your age next to your name?
Rachel - (draws the picture)
Mommy - That is not a 4 silly.
Rachel - Yes it is, it is my 4 fingers. (she holds up her hand to show me 4 fingers)

The Creator

Lately we have been trying to get Rachel to understand that God created everything. For example she and I (mom) were in the car and she asked why we were girls and daddy was a boy. I told her that is what God made us. So then the next day we had this conversation.

Mom - Why are you so cute?
Rachel - (shrugging her shoulders) I don't know, thats just how God made me.

Love it.

Learning to read

Ok, so Rachel is doing really well at learning all her letters and their sounds. So we decided to try out an easy one today. I wrote the letters... D-O-G. Together we sounded out each letter slowly and then sped up until the sounds made the word DOG. She got it and giggled. Then she talked about Sebastian for a while. Later on I showed her the word again and the following conversation happened.

Mom - Rachel, what is this word? (pointing to the DOG letters)
Rachel - (after looking at it intently) SEBASTIAN!!!

Well she is kinda of right...Sebastian is a dog :-)
